ISBUC Innovation Day

The 2024 ISBUC Innovation Day is a day for structural biologists working in academia and industry to come together, learn about each other's research, forge new contacts and expand their networks. The event will feature four fantastic keynote talks by leading innovators working in structural biology, as well as a poster session presenting the latest work by junior researchers at the University of Copenhagen and introductions to the Bioinnovation Institute, Nucleate and the UCPH Lighthouse.

Keynote Talk: Mentoring Entrepreneurs and Startups Through the Dawn of De Novo Protein Design

Lance Stewart is the Chief Strategy and Operations Officer of the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington and an Entrepreneur in Residence at BioInnovation Institute. He is a strong profile with more than 27 years of experience in protein and drug discovery research, life sciences partnering, and entrepreneurial start-up activities. Lance has co-founded several biotechnology companies and is an active angel investor.

 

 

Keynote Talk: From academia to biotech-developing small molecule antagonists to target solid tumors

Mette Trauelsen, CEO and co-founder of SOLID Therapeutics, has a background with a MSc in Biotechnology and a PhD in GPCR Pharmacology with focus on metabolite sensing GPCRs. Mette has postdoctoral experience from the University of Copenhagen working on drug discovery within oncology including being head of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at SOLID Therapeutics (previously Warburg Oncology).

 

 

Keynote Talk: Why understanding basic science is essential for innovation: From enzymes to therapies.

The Montoya Group works in the interface between biology, physics and chemistry and uses molecular biology, X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy to dissect the working mechanisms of the macromolecules that constitute the cell’s machinery.  Montoya is a co-founder of the succesful spin-out Twelve Bio.

 

 

Keynote Talk: Can you really plan your career? Or will your mindset drive you.

Garre is a senior executive with over 30 years of leadership experience in the international pharmaceutical pharma and biotech industries, primarily within R&D. In this time, Garre has participated in bringing 3 drugs through development phases to registration. During Servier's acquisition of Symphogen, Garre undertook the role of Head of Symphogen to lead the integration and change process. Via her roles in different companies, Garre has acquired a solid understanding of running a company and currently holds several board appointments.

In addition, the program will feature a fantastic poster session where industry researchers can see some of the latest state-of-the-art structural biology research happening at the University of Copenhagen. A prize will be awarded for the most innovative poster. There will also be three short flash talks where researchers can learn about some of the fantastic programs that are available to support innovation, including speakers from the Bioinnovation Institute, Nucleate and UCPH Lighthouse. Finally, the afternoon will conclude with networking, drinks and snacks.
